CELEBRATING OUR HISTORY TOGETHER!
THE FOURTH EDITION OF THE FESTIVAL D’HISTOIRE DE MONTRÉAL!
Friday, May 10 to Sunday, May 12, 2024
Montreal, April 10, 2024 —From May 10 to 12, 2024, Montreal History Museums (MHM) and their partners invite you to celebrate our fascinating collective history with the fourth edition of the Festival d’Histoire de Montréal.
As in previous editions, Festival activities will be presented by the 14 participating history museums, their partners and contributors across Montreal. Even though the Montreal History Museums did not receive any public funding this year to organize the Festival, the museums and their partners decided to go ahead and celebrate in their own way the 382nd anniversary of Montreal. They firmly believe in their mission to sensitize Montrealers to their history and heritage and also to promote it in some more relaxed and spontaneous ways than their regular programming.
“The Festival d’Histoire de Montréal is a highlight of the year. People and families of all backgrounds can participate, often free of charge, in history-related activities stimulating curiosity and the pleasure of discovery. Despite this year’s difficulties, the Festival museums and partners will offer programs in all their facilities. Over three days, the history of Montreal and its citizens will be celebrated, through an exceptional collaboration. We are sure that these activities will be enlightening and will help give meaning to the events we are living today.” André Delisle, Director of the Château Ramezay Museum and President of the Montreal History Museums.
Programming featuring in-person and virtual activities
For its 2024 lineup, the Festival d’Histoire de Montréal is proposing over 30 activities to be held all over the city, developed by the 14 museums and their partners, who include the Fédération Histoire Québec, the Société historique de Montréal and the Laboratoire d’histoire et de patrimoine de Montréal (UQAM). All kinds of activities will be happening – storytelling, games, urban circuits, witnessing, workshops, tastings, dancing and singing.
“We want to bring together experts and the public at large in a weekend of festive activities, appealing to all, and touching subjects that are not always covered in our exhibitions. We invite all individuals or associations who would like to offer an activity to contact us about adding it to our program. We hope that for three days people will be talking history all over the island!” says André Delisle.
So many free activities!
Most Festival d’Histoire de Montréal activities are free of charge, although a fee is charged for some guided tours.
