Château Dufresne, Museum and historical heritage site

2929, avenue Jeanne-d’Arc Montréal, QC H1W 3W2

The Château Dufresne was designated a historic monument in 1976. The sumptuous twinned residence, with its Beaux-Arts style, built for brothers Oscar and Marius Dufresne, reflects the ambitions, attitudes and tastes of Montréal’s French-speaking bourgeoisie in the early 1900s.

The building housed Quebec’s first Musée national d’art contemporain and its first Musée des arts décoratifs, before itself becoming a museum and heritage site. In addition to its permanent exhibition, the Château Dufresne offers temporary exhibitions and meditation programs on heritage, the arts, history and architecture.
