Have you ever wanted to offer a thank you gift to your political representatives?
It happened to George-Etienne Cartier in 1863, when his constituents gifted him with an epergne made of solid silver as a sign of their gratitude for his accomplishments. A monumental piece of silverware measuring more than a metre and weighing around 14 kilos! Quite a gift! At the time, it was an exceptional way to highlight Cartier’s accomplishments.
Also called a centrepiece, discover this unusual object of 19th century bourgeois life during a visit of its new exhibition room. Supported by animation designed for this exhibit, we will discover fascinating aspects of this artwork: its symbols, creation and restauration. It will be an opportunity for an exclusive look at this important witness to the history of silversmithing in Canada.
